Abbe Ramanan is a Project Director at Clean Energy Group, a national nonprofit focused on accelerating a just transition to affordable, reliable clean energy for all through innovative technical, economic, and policy solutions. At CEG, Abbe leads the Hydrogen Information and Public Education (HIPE) project, which develops educational materials and tools to equip advocates, regulators, and policymakers with evidence-based information to critically evaluate hydrogen proposals in their communities. Through HIPE, Abbe has worked closely with community organizations and local authorities to understand the potential harms and benefits of hydrogen production and use, as well as develop regulatory frameworks for hydrogen.

Abbe also leads the Phase Out Peakers project, which works to accelerate the retirement of polluting, fossil-fuel peaker power plants and to advance the deployment of clean, cost-effective alternatives, such as energy storage and renewables. Through Phase Out Peakers, Abbe works closely with community partners and local policymakers to identify strategies for an equitable transition away from fossil fuels and towards better health and wealth outcomes for environmental justice communities.

Abbe’s work has appeared in RTO Insider, Canary Media, Grist, Utility Dive, and E&E News, among others. Prior to joining CEG, Abbe worked on Vote Solar’s Policy and Advocacy team, supporting workforce development efforts in solar. Abbe received a master’s degree in energy policy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and an undergraduate degree in international relations from American University.
